FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY DO YOU WRITE ROMANCES?

I love, love, love romances, all kinds of romances. It also helps that I’m a huge sucker for happy endings! I have three series going right now; Handcuffs and Happily Ever Afters which includes HOW HARD CAN IT BE?, PIRATE DAVE AND HIS RANDY ADVENTURES, SIZE MATTERS and COP A FEEL. My Vampyre series; The Hot Damned Series which includes FASHIONABLY DEAD, FASHIONABLY DEAD DOWN UNDER, HELL ON HEELS and FASHIONABLY DEAD IN DIAPERS. The third series is my shifter series, Shift Happens series which includes READY TO WERE and SOME WERE IN TIME.

IF YOU COULDN’T BE A WRITER, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I would train monkeys.

HOW CAN READERS CHAT WITH YOU?

Well, I’m not giving out my phone number, but I check my Author Facebook page daily and try to get back to people as quickly as possible. There’s also a contact section on the website to email me. Most importantly, you can sign up for my news letter and get release dates and win ginormous prizes like cars and houses. Kidding, but you can win books and swag and all kinds of super cool stuff! Just use the subscribe box on this page to sign your hiney up!!

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?

Let me see…I don’t have any freakin’ free time! With two kids, one husband and eighteen animals (don’t fret, we live on a farm!) my time is filled. Although when I do have extra time I read. Who am I kidding? I read all the time, especially when I should be folding laundry or grocery shopping.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE A BOOK?

I’m a fast writer. Usually a month or two at the most. When I get going, I can’t seem to stop. (Just ask my family. Underpants are often in short supply when I’m on a writing jag!) However, I do end up needing some recuperation time when I finish a novel.

WHAT’S YOUR WRITING PROCESS?

I try really hard to write during the day, but I feel most creative at night. I do tend to write in the car during my kids soccer practices or in the pick up line at their school. Occasionally I use that time to sleep. That can get a bit awkward when the car-line starts moving and the principal has to knock on my window to wake me up.

DO YOU PLOT OUT YOUR BOOKS?

Absolutely not. I’m a pantser not a plotter. I get bored easily and I like discovering everything as I go. Writing is like putting together a complicated puzzle for me. I get so excited when everything fits together.

IS HOW HARD CAN IT BE? THE FIRST BOOK YOU EVER WROTE?

Not by a long shot. It’s my first published book. My first book I ever finished is sitting on a shelf, gathering dust along with the massive amount of rejection letters I got on it!

WHY DID YOU KEEP WRITING AFTER ALL THOSE REJECTIONS?

Writing is what I do. It makes me happy and I can do it in my underpants (or my husband’s boxer briefs). Rejection made me a better writer.

DO YOU LIKE WRITING PARANORMAL OR CONTEMPORARY BETTER?

I love both, but my obsession is paranormal! I think the world building and lack of rules appeals to me. I also think Vampyres and Shapeshifters are hot. My shrink would have a hey day with that…

DO YOU BASE YOUR CHARACTERS ON REAL PEOPLE?

No, but I tend to use all my friends names for my characters. For example, my dear friend Susan was appalled to learn I named a blow-up sex doll for her and my friend Kim was thrilled to learn she shared a named with a gal who lives, breaths and eats Bigfoot. My heroes are all based to a certain degree on my husband. He’ll roll his eyes when he reads this!

DID I GO TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH YOUR HUSBAND?

Probably not, but you’ve seen him. He’s an actor and his name is Steve Zahn. He likes to post on my blog when I’m not home. You can find bizarre diatribes about buying jeans and deer hunting every so often. Please know I have forbidden him to do this, but he thinks it’s hilarious.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO READ?

My addiction is paranormal romance. I also love young adult, contemporaries and biographies. And I’ll never say no to some great erotic romance. I read everything, but when I’m writing I never read in the same genre. It’s too easy to cross wires.

WILL YOU READ MY MANUSCRIPT?

I’m sorry, but I can’t. My lawyers won’t let me read unpublished works. That can get icky and complicated. If you’re really serious about becoming published, join a writing group and write your butt off! It’s a wonderful time for writers at the moment with so many ways to get your book out to the readers. Both independent and traditional publishing are viable options. I straddle both worlds, my contemporaries are with Kensington and my paranormals are indie.
